Stage 1: Research and Concept Moodboards
During my 2018 internship, the process began with trend research and moodboard building. The following three proposals were given to the Product Buying team. The concept “Black (Cat) Magic” was approved for the next stage.
Stage 2: Sketching and Vectorization
Below are some examples during the Sketching and Vectorization stage. This allowed for quick exploration of stylized figures and production pieces, such as bells and feathers.
Stage 3: Materials and Specs
Once a selection of vector concepts was made by the Product Buyers, we moved on to materials and specifications to order samples. This would allow the team to see the quality and cost of each product based on the suppliers to determine what pieces would move forward in the collection.
Stage 4: Samples
Below you can see a variety of samples and a few of the final products. Thankfully, there was a lot of texture and crinkle for the cats to find enjoyment with.
Stage 5: Seeing it in Stores!
A calendar year later, I was fortunate to see my collection in PetSmarts across the country. The photos shown here are from my local PetSmart in Indianapolis, IN and the other from my hometown Evansville, IN.
